During the Winter of
2003-2004 we spent our holidays on the island of Tenerife. We wanted to enjoy the sunshine, sand and sea and regenerate ourselves from our normal, everyday stress.
As always though, plans change quicker than we think.
It seems like we have always been somehow involved in animal protection. So
maybe, that is why we received a tip to look into working with the small
animal protection group on the island of La Gomera. This island is the second smallest island in the Canary Group and lies just a few kilometers to the south of
Tenerife.
We took a tour of La Gomera and were lucky enough to make contact with members of the island's Animal Protection Association, Pro Animal Gomera
(PAG). It soon became
clear that this association needed help and that we would provide what
assistance we could. We decided that the best approach to help would be to
found a German Partner Animal Protection Association.
What was said, was done and in the mean time
the Förderverein Animal La Gomera + e.V. (FALG) is some years old.
Since we have been active, we have supported
the local animal association (PAG) with all that we can. Many castration
actions have been accomplished and a few hundred cats have sterilized.
We would love to do more, but we are not allowed...Politics!! Humbug!!
There are always animals on the island that, because of specific problems, such as pure white cats
(susceptible to cancer), should be brought to Germany (or other acceptable countries). For these particular cats we need what is known as Flight
Sponsors. If you are planning a holiday to the island of La
