When Will There be an Animal
Shelter on Gomera?
The Animal Protection Association, Pro Animal
Gomera (PAG) has been in existence for quite a few years now to
handle animal issues. Many abandoned dogs and free living cats
have found new home through PAG. Many dogs and cats were
sterilized in order to control unwanted babies. Everything is
only a drop of water on a hot stone, because the most important
thing is missing... An Animal
Shelter.
More
and more tourists are reporting about dogs on too short of a line
and no water nearby. Many dogs are only skin and bones. Some are
kept in too small a cage and even then chained. A sad picture for
the beautiful island.
Cats
colonies are more and more being reported. Nevertheless, new cats
are coming, with and without "Cat Colds".
Many
of these reports came after the partner Animal protection
Association "Förderverein Animal la Gomera + e.V. " (FALG) had
left the Island to go back home to Germany. Naturally these
reports were forwarded and appropriate complaints to the
responsible authorities made.
It
would be better, when such tragic situations were found, if the
tourists would take pictures and then immediately report the
incident to PAG, then together with PAG a proper complaint could
be made. Standing language problems could then be solved and it
would insure that a complaint is actually properly filed.
PAG
has asked the politicians many times over the years, "When can we
have an Animal Shelter?"
Some
listen carefully to what PAG has to say, nod their heads and say,
"Yes, we need an Animal Shelter", others refuse to even receive a
PAG delegation. All in all, a very unacceptable situation.
Now
a petition has been started to positively show that the people
wish an Animal Shelter. It would be nice if you the reader of
this article would add your signature to the petition.
Please ask PAG about where this petition can be found. Simply
call 676-011561 or
www.pro-animal-gomera.com.
Many
greeting from Germany.
