Debate in Hermigua over the Animal Problem on
Gomera!
A meeting was held in the
Community Center of Hermigua ast Friday, the 27th of February,
with the theme of “Animals on Gomera”.
The Animal Protection
Association, Pro Animal Gomera, thanked the community of
Hermigua and especially Mr. Antonio Febles, for calling
organizing the meeting.
According to the Association,
present were representatives of the Island government, the
Communities of Hermigua, San Sebastian, Valle Gran Rey, and
Alajeró, the National Park, the SEPRONA (a division of the
Guardia Civil), the Association “Tagaragunche”, the Vererinarian
Clinic of San Sebastian, as well as Pro Animal Gomera.
Unfortunately, the Association (PAG), stated that the
Communities of Valle Hermosa and Agulo, were not represented.
All those present agreed that
an Animal Shelter would go a long way towards solving the
problem of abandoned house pets and half wild farm animals on
the Island.
The representative from the
community of San Sebastian, presented the recommendation of the
community to allow the use of land to build an Animal Shelter to
which the representative from the Island government, Mr. Sarafin
Suarez, promised to pass this information on to the responsible
person of the Nature Protection Authorities, Mr. Juan Alonso
Herrera, as well as the Island President, Mr. Casimiro Curbelo.
Besides that, he promised, in
short, to call another meeting in order to finalize the Animal
Shelter building project.
Pro Animal Gomera again
reminded the responsible organizations of the necessity to
continue with sterilization actions as well as education of the
population in the near future.
Pro Animal Gomera further
stated that we have a lot of work and effort before us , but we
value the fact that this meeting was called and we are convinced
that when we work together, we can offer the animals of La
Gomera a better future.
